Here are a few questions we regularly get asked... if the answer you need is not here contact us and we'll do our best to get you an answer straight away.
Where are the living-room treehouses?
We are 8 miles from the bustling market town of Machynlleth in Mid Wales, on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. You will be around 15 miles from fine sandy beaches.
The Treehouses are located in a stunning landscape – built within Oak, Larch and Scots Pine woodland, alongside open pastures and mountain streams.
How can I pay for my Treehouse Holiday?
You can buy your Treehouse Holiday in one of two ways.
Through 'experience companies' who will sell you a voucher to be redeemed for a date of your choosing, or directly from us using this website.
If you book directly, when you have chosen your date, then you will NOT need a voucher code.
If you have bought your holiday through an 'experience company', or received a voucher as a gift, you WILL HAVE A CODE PRINTED ON YOUR VOUCHER, you will need to enter that code to book your holiday.
Different 'experience companies' call their booking codes different things. If in doubt enter them all (including any PIN Number) - or give us a call.
What should we bring with us?
Very little!
Your Treehouse is fully equipped – with everything from tea-lights to eco-shampoo ... we suggest sturdy shoes and a good coat, a change of clothes, food, towels, a good torch (for night time walks) and flip-flops (for the shower).
What time can we check-in/check-out?
Check-in is between 3pm and 4pm on the day of arrival. Check out is 11am on the day of departure. It is important to arrive between 3pm and 4pm as we will meet you on arrival – and show you to your treehouse.
If you can’t arrive between 3pm and 4pm, give us a call before you book.
How close can I get my car to the treehouse?
Your car can be driven to within 400 yards of the treehouse site. From the car park, it’s a 5 – 10 minute walk to your treehouse. The treehouses have a spiral staircase as their primary access – please make clear at the time of booking if this is likely to cause difficulty.
Are living-room treehouses “real” treehouses?
Absolutely – they are built completely in the trees – guaranteed, no stilts.
How is the treehouse laid out ?
Each treehouse is open-plan, divided into a sleeping area and living area. Imagine a cosy loft apartment – nestling high in the tree canopy.
The living part is split into a kitchen area and a seating/dining area with woodburning stove. The sleeping area has a gorgeous double bed, and bunk beds, if required.
The treehouse has an outside deck in the trees, with craftsmen-made chairs and dining table for memorable dining in the treetops. Your treehouse has an ensuite toilet, and a super-fantastic warm forest shower.
Will I be warm and cosy?
Completely, the treehouses are lovely to live in all year – in fact many guests come in the summer, and then come back in the winter.
At the heart of your treehouse is a wood-burning stove which heats the treehouse beautifully; it also heats the water that falls from your private spring water shower.
Do we have to pay for firewood or other “extras”?
No! Although we occasionally offer courses - and (if available) private wood-fired hot tubs can be booked! You will be offered a Hot Tub (if available) during the booking process, and news of any courses will be sent to you before your holiday!
Is there mains electricity at the treehouse?
No! These are super-efficient “off-grid” eco-structures; built high in the trees - everything you need to be really comfortable is provided in innovative ways.
How can I cook?
Treehouse holidays are self-catering – and everything you need to cook with, and eat from, is provided in your treehouse's fully equipped kitchen area.
Your treehouse has a 2-burner gas hob with all the pans you'll need. There's no oven but the wood-burning stove can also be used for baked potatoes, marshmallows etc.
Is there a fridge?
There is a rudimentary fridge at the treehouse. It works using water-evaporation and, although fairly small, is fine for milk, butter and all the stuff you would keep in a normal fridge.
Can I bring a bar-b-que?
The treehouses are built in a protected ancient woodland – so we don’t encourage bar-b-ques. However the lovely woodburning stove in the treehouse should satisfy even the keenest lighter of fires, while the gas hob is perfect for cooking.
Is this holiday suitable for young children?
A treehouse holiday is perfect for children aged 4+. Younger children may find the spiral staircases, candles and wobbly bridges etc. tricky. We don’t have a lower age limit – but young children need to be carefully supervised when up in the treehouse.
We do not provide cots – so you may need to bring a travel cot if you have a very young child.
Can we bring an extra child?
The treehouses have a double bed and two singles (as a bunk) – ideal for a family of four. But, if your family is a little bigger, each treehouse has a day-bed, suitable for a third child.
Can we come as a group of adults or two families sharing a treehouse?
The treehouses are not suitable for a group of adults staying in a single treehouse ... they are designed for couples, or families with children. But, you are welcome to book more than one treehouse if you want to experience treehouse life with your friends. The treehouses aren't designed for two families sharing a single treehouse!
Are the treehouses near each other?
Not really… our treehouses are in a large woodland and spaced well apart– we want you to feel a strong sense of being deep in the heart of nature.
Can dogs come to the treehouses?
Sorry – we cannot have dogs to stay as the treehouses are on a sheep farm.
If you would like to bring your dog to Wales, there is a farmhouse kennels 2 miles from the treehouse – we can pass on the contact info if you need it.
Is this an environmentally friendly holiday?
Very. The treehouses are created using sustainably harvested wood, mostly sourced from within 15 miles of the site. The detail and furniture is made from bone-oak, found on our woodland floor.
All the water at your treehouse is fully approved for drinking. It is gorgeous, and comes from our mountain spring, through particulate filters and out of your taps and shower!
The wood for your stove comes from a sustainably managed local woodland.
If you want to arrive by train (in Machynlleth) we will pick you up from the station, and drop you off at the end of your holiday.
All shampoo, soap, dishwashing liquid and cloths are sourced carefully and we use eco-cleaning products.
Our laundrette is powered by Solar energy, and we have created an indoors passive drying system.
Can we buy a treehouse holiday as a gift?
Yes. We have a lovely treehouse holiday voucher that is great to give as a gift. It is valid for any available calendar date.
Vouchers are valid for two years from the date of issue and come with a little treehouse brochure “The Treehouse Guide to Happiness”.
Gift vouchers cost the same as direct bookings, please see the ‘Book a Treehouse’ page.
To book a Treehouse Open Voucher please call us on 01650 511900.
Can I choose a particular treehouse before my holiday?
We have worked hard to make each of our treehouses magical. We generally decide which treehouse would be best for you on arrival. Some treehouses are more challenging to get to than others. Some are more suitable for families with young children.
If you have stayed before, and would like to stay in a particular treehouse, give us a call before you book.
Can I extend my stay?
Yes. Generally stays at the treehouses are for 2 nights – although we offer an extra night free if guests arrive on selected Sundays.
You can book consecutive two-night stays to make longer holidays, if available.
What would you recommend we do during our treehouse stay?
Very little. Most of our guests tend to stay close to the treehouses. The walks are gorgeous, there are streams to play in, woods to explore ... bring a book and enjoy the experience of life in the trees.
However there will be suggested walks, and great tips for scenic trips waiting for you in your treehouse.
We are close to gorgeous beaches and the pretty market town of Machynlleth ... plus fabulous visitor attractions, including the Centre for Alternative Technology, Welsh Prince castles, internationally important nature reserves and the mystical King Arthur's Labyrinth.

We are Living-room Experiences Ltd (Company Number - 08723420
Registered in the UK), but actually we are Mark, Julia, Debbie, John, Amber and Gill - and we have had great fun designing and building these unique treehouses in this beautiful woodland in mid-Wales.
We are deep in the heart of the Dyfi Valley - a biosphere so special that it is recognised and protected by UNESCO.
Our woods are "Fron Fawr" and are a wonderful mix of Oak and Scots Pine trees, mosses, bluebells and ferns, alongside rushing mountain streams.
The woods are home to hares, rabbits, badgers, buzzards, red kites - and an exciting range of meadow and woodland birds.
We have otters living in the stream, foxes passing through, and rare mountain sheep close by.
This is a breathtakingly beautiful place, unspoilt , remote, peaceful and inspiring.
If you choose to come to stay we aim to give you an experience that you will always remember.
